Overview

Depression is a medical condition that affects mood, energy, sleep, appetite, concentration and interest in daily life. It is diagnosed clinically, by history and examination, not by a single test.

Because depression affects both emotional and physical health, effective care is often coordinated. At Millenium Medical Group, mental health counselling and primary care sit in the same practice, with TMS assessment available where clinically appropriate.

Signs and symptoms

Commonly reported. None of these confirms a diagnosis on its own.

  • Persistent low mood or emptiness most of the day
  • Loss of interest or pleasure in activities you used to enjoy
  • Changes in sleep — sleeping far more or far less
  • Appetite or weight changes
  • Fatigue or loss of energy
  • Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
  • Feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt
  • Physical aches without a clear cause

How we approach care

Care starts with assessment, not assumption. Your clinician reviews your history, symptoms and previous treatment — then explains what they found, including what is uncertain.

Because the practice is multidisciplinary, care often involves more than one service.
